Yesterday, I promised you guys I had a fun announcement to make. Well, here it is: Four Houses will be soon be available to readers. This dark YA short story was originally published in 2011. It sold incredibly well for a shortie, and the reviews were great. So good, that my agent and I eventually made the decision to pull it and consider either A) Combining it with other stories for a full anthology, or B) Sending it to a publisher so it could gain greater exposure.
Ultimately, an editor at Harper Impulse jumped on it. She asked if I could extend Four Houses to meet their word count requirements, and we brainstormed ways to do that. In the end, we got there, and the story improved. We were all set to move forward with Four Houses. And then the thing happened that sometimes happens in publishing. The editor left her position.
So my agent and I tried again, and we got requests, but I’d lost patience. This was a short story after all, and I’d had dozens of emails from readers asking for it to please be made available again. And so I asked my agent to pull it off sub, and I’m excited to tell you that Four Houses will be published on Kindle, Nook, and iPad on July 22, 2014. It’ll have a new cover, and will be an extended version of the story thanks to the original Harper Impulse editor’s help.
I can’t wait to share more with you. But for now, here’s the blurb and Goodreads link so you can start getting jazzed!
An empty field.
A white dress.
Which house would you choose?
Four Houses is a dark short story told in an unusual format that leaves readers asking themselves how they’d react if found in the same situation as seventeen-year-old Maddy.
