I promised you news about the FIRE & FLOOD series today, and I fancy myself a woman of my word. I’ll start by apologizing for the fact that I don’t have a ton of news to share. Scholastic would like to hold onto the majority of the details about the series until right before release, and I’m behind them 100% on this. But that doesn’t mean I’m not bursting at the seams to spill everything I know!

Here’s what I will say. This series is extremely different from the DANTE WALKER series. For starters, FIRE & FLOOD is a teen thriller whereas THE COLLECTOR is a paranormal romance. I had the idea for FIRE & FLOOD after reading a book that wasn’t what I expected it to be. It wasn’t a bad book. In fact, it was quite the opposite. But I had this vision in my head of what it would be…and it wasn’t that. My mom was visiting at the time and after hurling the (amazing) book across the room, she asked what was wrong. “It’s not what I expected,” I said.

“Is it bad?” she asked.

“No,” I answered. “It’s bloody brilliant, just not what I wanted.”

She paused.

I paused.

We looked at each other, and I smiled.

“You gonna’ write the story you wanted?” she asked.

“Like a boss, Mom,” I said. “Like a boss.”

After driving the moms to the airport, I called an author friend and verbally vomed all the ideas I had. Her reply: “You have to write this book, Victoria. Like, right freaking now.”

I did.

I ran upstairs and started outlining, and a few days later, I began writing the first draft. I’m not sure I wrote it “like a boss,” but it did feel…right. I sent out completed drafts to my agent, to my husband, to my sister and mom. They all called and said the same thing. “THE COLLECTOR is good. But this is better.”

Weeks later, Scholastic emailed my agent a LOOOOOOONG email explaining their enthusiasm and the support they were prepared to put behind the series. I freaked. My agent freaked. My husband asked if I would meet Harry Potter.

And now, I get to unveil the very first bit of news. Before now, I’ve only gotten to say that FIRE & FLOOD was coming in 2014, and possibly in the spring. But now I can announce that…

FIRE & FLOOD WILL RELEASE MARCH 2014!

Thanks for stopping by for the first nugget of news on my new series. You can add the book on Goodreads here if you’d like! Next month I’ll be talking about what similarities and differences there are between THE COLLECTOR series and the FIRE & FLOOD series, and what you can expect from this new venture! 😀
