Earlier this week, I opened my email to see I had a message from my Scholastic editor. It started like this: Hi Victoria. Are you sitting down? It’s important that you’re sitting down. Below her note was one from the Scholastic foreign rights agent. She was writing to say that a “heated auction” for German rights to FIRE & FLOOD started before the Frankfurt Book Festival even began, and continued throughout the festival. It seems, to my immense surprise, that no one wanted to back down in their pursuit of bringing Pandoras to Germany.

In the end, Bertlesmann won the auction after increasing their offer to a two-book deal, and committing to making FIRE & FLOOD their lead YA title in 2015. For those of you who don’t know, Bertlesmann is the powerhouse company that owns Penguin Random House. And they bought my book for Germany! What’s more, they’ve committed to a seriously crazy marketing push for the books including magazine and newspaper ads, a four page spread in their catalog spotlighting the book, etc. I can’t tell you how unbelievably excited I am by this news. Here’s a tweet from my representing agent announcing the deal earlier today:
