My Big News:
Yes, it’s THAT kind of news. The kind of news that makes you lie awake at night. The kind that sends you straight to church in thanks.
It’s the someone wants to buy my book kind of news!
*Insert sqeeing and singing and happy dancing*
Here’s how it all went down:
My agent, the fabulous Laurie McLean (seriously guys, she’s mucho fabulous), submitted my manuscript to Editor Liz Pelletier at Entangled Teen on a Tuesday. Three days later, Liz called my agent to say she wanted it. Plus two more books.
During the time this went down, I was at the ALA Midwinter Conference in Dallas, and also moving into a new house. Needless to say, it took a bit before my agent got a hold of me. But when she did, let me just say that I screamed and cried for so long that she actually had to say, while laughing–
“Do you want to call me back?”
I told her no. I’ll control myself (I didn’t), so that she could explain the details (she did). Entangled Teen wanted to buy all three books in my YA Paranormal trilogy in a preemptive offer! I pretended to know what “preemptive” meant and resumed crying.
The next thing that happened was a conference call with me, my agent, my new editor (Eek!), and the marketing director. They discussed release dates. They discussed my book. They went over marketing strategies.
I added valuable input via nervous laughter.
Here’s how I feel in a nutshell:
Hundreds of thousands of written words.
Heart-breaking months searching for an agent.
Heart-breaking months searching for a publisher.
Years of self-doubt.
Is it all worth it?
I have one message during this uber-exciting time:
Thank you. Thank you to everyone who pushed me when I needed it. To those who read and critiqued my work. To people who told me it would happen, even when I’d given up hope. To my agent and sparkly, new publishing house for believing. To the writer, reader, and blogger friends I’ve made while pursuing publication. And to everyone who will support me in the future–thank you.
AND NOW, THE FIRST TASTE OF MY BOOK!!! PLEASE LEAVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS! I’D SO LOVE TO HEAR THEM! (Last squeal, I promise):
